Short Film
Not as Advertised
A short film written and directed by emerging director Niklas Springer. Not as Advertised is a satirical yet heart-warming story about generational conflicts of worldview, and unlearning patterns of behaviour we have been brought up with.
Our story unfolds through the eyes of Anouk as she observes her father Gary, a capitalistic boomer, take on Mia, a DIY-fuelled, bohemian Gen Z artist moving abroad and selling her antique dresser. Anouk finds herself in the middle as her dad exploits Mia’s situation to get the best possible deal.
The project originated from the producers’ desire to support their filmmaking network. For many in the creative industries, the last 3 years have been incredibly difficult. What is notoriously a hard industry to break into, was only made harder during lockdowns, restrictions, and strikes. Besides wanting to tell a story that feels current and relatable, this short will support the careers of incredible emerging UK talent.
Good storytelling attracts talent, and the script has secured Alex Lanipekun, rising star Elèna Gyasi (SIX (stage), THE A LIST) as the protagonist Anouk, and Tamzin Merchant (CARNIVAL ROW, SALEM, THE TUDORS) as Mia.
